Program Goals
Versatility has always been one of the defining characteristics of the American Bulldog, and preserving that versatility is a primary goal of my breeding program. I strive to produce dogs that are structurally sound, mentally stable, and capable of excelling in protection sports, performance events, farm and ranch work, and as trusted family guardians.
Common Breed Traits and History
American Bulldogs are a working breed originally developed to perform a wide range of tasks including home and family guardian, protection, farm utility work, and catching feral hogs. These roles required great strength, persistence, and courage.
I strive to preserve the traditional qualities with focus on the family guardian, protection, and farm utility traits.
Dogs from my program can be expected to have:
- Medium to high working drives
- Natural prey drive

What is a Guardian Breed?
Guardian breeds are naturally aware, observant dogs with strong territorial awareness and protective instincts. Their job is to alert to unfamiliar people or animals and when necessary, potentially defend their home, family, or property.
They are great family dogs, but are not passive companions. They require structure, training, and responsible ownership.
What is Territorial Behavior?
Territorial behavior is a dog’s natural willingness to defend what it considers its territory from unfamiliar people or animals. This includes the home, property, vehicle, vacation campsite etc.
A strong guardian breed may bark at strangers with intensity and physically block gates, doors, or other points of entry to the home or property.
Are Your Dogs Social?
Social behavior varies within each litter and between individual breedings. Some dogs may be more outgoing while others may be indifferent toward unfamiliar people.
American Bulldogs are not Labradors. They are not expected to love all people indiscriminately at all times. In public, many are content to ignore people they do not know.
Early socialization can increase social behavior in public, but guardian behavior will still show at home.
Are American Bulldogs Dog Aggressive?
Dog aggression is a common breed trait. While I do not breed dogs with generalized dog aggression, they are still not “dog park” dogs or dogs intended for free play with unfamiliar dogs.
American Bulldogs are selective with strange dogs rather than social or playful with everyone. This shows strongly at maturity and while puppies might be playful, their behavior can change once they are adults.
Owners should be prepared to train, supervise, and make responsible choices around other dogs.

What is it Like to Live With an American Bulldog?
They are affectionate, silly, and extremely loyal. They bond closely with their people and want to be involved in every activity.
American Bulldogs are a very physical breed often referred to as Crash Test Dummies for their exuberant antics.
They have medium to high energy but also a reliable off switch when their needs are met. With structure and daily exercise, they are calm in the home.
Are American Bulldogs Good Family Dogs?
Yes, in the right homes. These dogs are loyal, affectionate, silly, and deeply bonded to their families.
They are best suited for active homes that understand large guardian breeds and are committed to training and structure.
They are not low maintenance dogs, but they are highly rewarding companions that love their family.
What is Prey Drive?
Prey drive is the natural instinct to notice, chase, and catch animals that trigger predatory behavior. Squirrels, rabbits, cats, deer, livestock etc. It can also be directed at fast moving objects and toys.
Prey drive does not mean a dog is unstable or unsafe with other animals, but training is required. Prey drive is part of the breed’s history as a farm utility dog, hunting and hog dog.
Can They Live With Other Animals?
Yes, many Ferocia Bulldogs live safely with cats, livestock, and other household animals when they are raised with them from puppyhood.
Because American Bulldogs were historically used as farm utility and hog catching dogs, prey drive is a natural part of the breed. Without early exposure and guidance, that prey drive can generalize toward many types of animals.
When puppies are raised with livestock or other household animals, the dog learns through training which animals belong to the family and which animals do not.
Why is Training So Important?
Dogs are not born understanding human rules or expectations. They do not inherently know that certain natural instincts are inappropriate in a human household or in public environments.
Training is necessary to clearly communicate what is expected, what is allowed, and what is not allowed. Through fair, balanced training we teach the dog how to succeed within a human world that does not operate on canine logic.
American Bulldogs are large, powerful dogs with strong natural instincts. In order for them to be safe, reliable, and well adjusted members of society, those instincts must be guided and controlled through consistent training.
Is The American Bulldog Right For You?

- A dog that can attend dog parks or daycare
- A dog with little prey drive
- A dog that requires minimal training or management
